He may be one of the Premier League’s most in-form players right now but Cole Palmer is not Enzo Maresca’s ‘favourite player’ at present, according to Joao Felix.
On Saturday, Palmer made history by becoming the first player to score four goals in the first half of a Premier League match. The 22-year-old England international, who transferred to Chelsea from Manchester City last summer for an initial £40 million, played a key role in the Blues’ 4-2 win over Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
Days before the match, Palmer attended the EAFC 25 launch event in London with teammate Joao Felix, who participated in a rapid-fire interview. In his chat with Sky Sports, Felix revealed insights about his teammates, discussing topics like the best hairstyle and who might become a manager.
One of the standout moments was when Felix was asked about Enzo Maresca’s ‘favorite’ player. After a brief pause, he mentioned “Moi,” referring to Moises Caicedo, the Ecuadorian midfielder who joined Chelsea last summer for a British-record £115 million.
Maresca recently praised Caicedo as a “very important player” for the team this season, though he noted there’s room for improvement in his play. “I knew Moi from his time at Brighton and watched many of his games. Right now, he’s crucial for us,” the Italian coach said. “He’s performing well off the ball, but he needs to be more assertive on it and break lines better. He’s doing great, but there’s potential for even more.”
Caicedo has played more matches than any other Chelsea player this season, and following his display against West Ham last weekend, Maresca again praised the defensive midfielder.
“He is top,” Maresca stated. “His performance was excellent, but he has been fantastic since the beginning, and once again, he was outstanding.”
