Report: Liverpool target signs new contract at Premier League club

According to Football Transfers, Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has signed a new contract at St James’ Park.

The England international had been facing uncertainty regarding his future at the club after being linked with a summer move to Liverpool. However, he has now committed to Newcastle, putting speculation about his departure to rest.

Previously, Newcastle had offered Gordon to Liverpool as they sought to address Profit and Sustainability Rules, while also expressing interest in signing Joe Gomez from the club.

Yet, after selling Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, Newcastle resolved their financial concerns and opted to retain Gordon. This led to rumors that the player’s head had been turned by the Premier League giants’ interest.

Alongside Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have also expressed interest in Anthony Gordon, who was named Newcastle’s player of the season for 2023-24.

Liverpool considered letting Luis Diaz go to facilitate Gordon’s move to Anfield. However, their decision to retain Diaz has paid off, as the Colombian winger has begun the season in strong form.

Eddie Howe will be pleased with Newcastle’s decision to keep Gordon, as his new contract makes him the highest-paid player at the club.

After scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists in the Premier League last season, Gordon has had a slower start this season with just two goals in seven matches. Nevertheless, his contributions have helped keep Newcastle in the top half of the Premier League, currently placing them above Tottenham and Manchester United in the standings.
