BARCELONABayern Munich may end up convincing key Barcelona target to stay

Since Sergio Busquets left FC Barcelona, the club has been searching for a midfielder to fill his role. Over the past two years, they have been connected with various players, with Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich being a prominent name in the discussions.

Kimmich’s contract with Bayern expires at the end of the season, and negotiations for a renewal have been challenging. At one point, it seemed likely he would leave Munich in 2025, but recent developments suggest otherwise.

According to the Spanish outlet SPORT, citing German publication Bild, Kimmich is now closer to renewing his contract with Bayern. Following Vincent Kompany’s appointment as coach, Kimmich appears more inclined to stay, especially with Bayern offering him the captaincy in the new deal.

His on-field performance has improved, and he is facing less criticism than before. As a result, the speculation linking him to Barcelona may be winding down. Both Xavi and Flick have shown interest in Kimmich as a replacement for Busquets, but Bayern’s high asking price and Barcelona’s financial constraints made the transfer unlikely.

Additionally, the rise of players like Marc Bernal and Marc Casado has reduced the urgency for Barcelona to sign Kimmich. Real Madrid has also shown interest in him as a potential successor to Toni Kroos, but it seems Bayern may come out on top in this situation in the near future.
