Joan Laporta and Deco are actively involved in planning Barcelona’s squad and are considering bringing back a former player who had difficulty adapting during his first stint with the club.
Barcelona currently tops La Liga with 21 points from eight matches, having lost only once to Osasuna, and sits four points behind Real Madrid.
As reported by El Nacional, young midfielder Nico González, who has been performing well at Porto, is a potential target for a return. A product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, Nico left the club initially due to a lack of playing time.
After a loan at Valencia, he joined Porto in 2023 for €8.5 million, with Barcelona retaining 40% of any future sale and a €30 million buy-back option until 2025.
This season, under coach Vítor Bruno, Nico has made significant strides, participating in all nine official matches so far, scoring three goals and providing one assist while taking on a more advanced role.
Barcelona is closely tracking his development, with Deco acknowledging his potential. Current coach Hansi Flick is also likely to appreciate the idea of Nico’s return, as he could form a strong midfield duo with Gavi, enhancing the team’s depth and flexibility.
