Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta seems to be losing confidence in forward Gabriel Jesus as speculation grows about the club’s interest in acquiring one of Europe’s top strikers. Jesus has struggled this season, failing to score in eight appearances, highlighting his ongoing difficulties since joining Arsenal.
After transferring from Manchester City for £45 million in the summer of 2022, expectations were high, but he has managed only 19 goals in 77 matches, a disappointing return given his potential. Injuries have significantly impacted his time in London, with a recent hamstring issue sidelining him for two weeks. This has raised concerns about his future at the club.
Last summer, Arsenal explored options for several prominent strikers, including Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres, but ultimately chose to strengthen other areas instead of pursuing a major striker, signing players like Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino.
Interest in Benjamin Šeško faded after he signed a new contract with Red Bull Leipzig in June, which runs until 2029. His performance during Euro 2024 was lackluster, failing to score in any of Slovenia’s matches. However, Šeško has made a strong start this season, netting six goals, including two in a Champions League match against Juventus. His impressive form has reportedly caught Arteta’s eye, leading him to consider a move for the striker in 2025.
According to recent reports from TEAMtalk, Arsenal and Red Bull Leipzig have begun discussions about Šeško and may have reached a preliminary agreement. Despite his new contract, it contains a £55 million release clause, and Arsenal has been informed they will have priority in negotiations if that figure is met.
Šeško aligns with Arteta’s strategy of targeting younger talent, viewed as a potential star for both club and country. As Arteta evaluates his options, the pressure is mounting on Jesus to regain his scoring form or risk being replaced by an emerging talent like Šeško.
