Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on who Manchester United could sign next summer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS continue to try and drag the club back to the top.
Erik ten Hag has led Manchester United to their worst start to a Premier League season for the second year in a row, leaving the club in 14th place. Despite this, it seems he will remain in charge after the international break, despite speculation about a potential move for Thomas Tuchel.
Under Ten Hag, United has spent over £700 million, yet the team is not in a position to contend for the league title, even after winning the FA Cup in 2024. However, in typical United fashion, Ratcliffe is poised to increase their spending, with Romano reporting that one of their targets for next season is Eberechi Eze, who has caught the attention of several clubs, including Manchester United.
Romano noted that while Eze is being scouted, he isn’t the only target, and the club has not yet finalized their top priority. United aims to invest in a winger in 2025, but a decision on who that will be has not been made, with Eze being one of several options.
Eze’s appeal partly stems from his release clause, which is seen as attractive given the current market conditions.
Romano revealed that Eberechi Eze’s release clause, estimated at around £60 million, will still be in place in 2025. However, Eze has not had a strong start to the 2024/25 season, as his Crystal Palace team currently sits in the bottom three, having failed to win any of their first seven Premier League matches.
The 26-year-old was expected to leave Selhurst Park in the summer following his England call-up for Euro 2024, but Crystal Palace chose to retain him after selling Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.
