Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has voiced his admiration for Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, stating, “I’ve been following his playing style this season, and I’m already a fan. He fits perfectly with our approach at Barcelona, and we’re prepared to meet his asking price, whatever it may be.” This comes as Barcelona targets the £45 million star as their top priority for the upcoming summer transfer window.
Reports suggest that Barcelona is keen on acquiring Partey, whose contract runs until the end of the 2024/25 season. This situation allows him to negotiate a free transfer with Barcelona as early as January, although any move would officially occur next summer.
Partey joined Arsenal in 2020 after they activated a £45 million release clause in his contract with Atletico Madrid, making him the club’s most expensive signing under Mikel Arteta.
Despite expectations of a reduced role this season, Partey has regained prominence in the squad following a shoulder injury to new signing Mikel Merino, starting all seven of Arsenal’s Premier League matches so far.
While Arsenal is considering offering Partey a contract extension, it remains uncertain if this will materialize. He has previously expressed his commitment to the club, saying, “My focus is always on Arsenal. I’m happy to be here and committed to the club, despite the speculation. I’ll continue to give my best and stay fit.”
