Arsenal fans vented on on social media after Tosin Adarabioyo received a yellow card for Chelsea early on at Anfield against Liverpool.
As the visitors pressed forward, Liverpool opted for a long ball directed at Diogo Jota.
Former Fulham player Tosin was caught off guard, resulting in a collision with Jota that saw him brought down just inside his own half.
Liverpool called for a red card just five minutes into the match, but Tosin received only a yellow.
Reds fans were displeased with the ruling, but Arsenal supporters watching from home were even more frustrated.
This was particularly frustrating because William Saliba received a red card for a similar incident during Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday after a VAR review.
One fan expressed outrage: “Tosin Adarabioyo got a yellow instead of a red simply because he doesn’t play for Arsenal.”
Another commented: “Tosin received a yellow for the same tackle Saliba was sent off for yesterday.”
A third wrote: “It’s unbelievable that Tosin Adarabioyo wasn’t sent off for the exact same foul as Saliba.”
Someone else added: “It’s alarming how similar Tosin’s yellow was to Saliba’s red just a day apart… PGMOL is truly inconsistent.”
A fifth fan remarked: “Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo got a yellow for a challenge almost identical to the one that led to Saliba’s red yesterday.”
The main difference in the decisions appeared to be that Levi Colwill was considered to be providing cover.
Jota ultimately had to leave the field due to an injury he seemed to sustain during the clash with Tosin. Meanwhile, Liverpool took the lead 1-0 after Mo Salah scored a strong penalty following Colwill’s foul on Curtis Jones.
Saliba, on the other hand, will miss the upcoming match against Liverpool at Anfield due to his red card.
