Jamie Carragher has raised questions about Howard Webb’s potential involvement following William Saliba’s red card during Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Bournemouth.

Carragher’s remarks indicate concerns regarding Webb’s oversight of the officiating in the match.

Saliba received a yellow card from referee Rob Jones for a foul on Evanilson in the first half at The Vitality Stadium, but after a VAR review, it was changed to a red card. Consequently, Saliba will miss Arsenal’s important game against Liverpool.

Carragher speculated on social media about Webb’s influence on the decision, pointing out that Webb was seen using his phone in the stands during the incident. In a now-deleted tweet, he questioned, “Did Howard Webb have any involvement in the decision to issue a red card to Saliba?”

Arsenal fans expressed their anger over the red card, directing their ire at Webb and the PGMOL, with chants of “F*** Howard Webb.” Despite being reduced to ten men, Arsenal held the score at 0-0 by halftime but ultimately fell 2-0 in the second half.

This loss compounds Arsenal’s difficulties, as captain Martin Odegaard is still injured, although Arteta suggested Odegaard might be available for the Liverpool match.
