Details of the demands Mohamed Salah is making in his contract negotiations with Liverpool have finally emerged
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, indicating he may be nearing the end of his time with the club. This season, the Egyptian winger has been pivotal for Liverpool, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 11 matches.
In light of this, Liverpool is keen to finalize his future with the team. Reports suggest that Salah is seeking a contract extension that would keep him at the club until the summer of 2027, when he would be 35.
This comes amid claims from Gabriel Agbonlahor that Salah has reached an agreement with a Saudi Pro League club offering a lucrative contract. However, sources indicate that Liverpool is “not worried” and believes they remain in a strong position to retain their star player.
The club is confident that Salah prefers to stay at Liverpool, where he has played since joining from Roma in 2017. Nevertheless, competition from the Saudi Pro League is intense, as Salah has been a key target since last summer when Al Ittihad’s £150 million bid was turned down.
Saudi officials envision a long-term role for Salah, who is one of the most recognized Muslim footballers globally, as a leading figure in a league featuring stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and his former teammate Sadio Mane.
While Liverpool may feel optimistic about the prospects of Salah signing an extension, they also have Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold out of contract this summer. The club will undoubtedly want to secure all three players’ commitments as soon as possible.
With 2024 nearing its end, the Reds have only two months left to persuade these key players to stay before they can begin negotiating pre-contract agreements with other clubs in January.
