Liverpool suffer unexpected injury setback ahead of Arsenal clash which could derail their entire season

Liverpool could be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson for longer than initially expected, a new report has claimed.

Liverpool faces an unexpected injury setback ahead of their match against Arsenal, which could significantly impact their season. Reports indicate that first-choice goalkeeper Alisson may be sidelined longer than previously anticipated.

Alisson, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2018 for £66.8 million, has been instrumental to the team’s success but has also dealt with recurring injuries. He sustained a hamstring injury during a Premier League match against Crystal Palace on October 5, causing him to miss Brazil’s international fixtures.

Initially, it was thought he would return after the upcoming international break in mid-November, but Football Insider now suggests that Liverpool is reassessing his recovery timeline, potentially pushing his return to December. The club’s medical staff are cautious about rushing him back, especially with backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher performing well.

As a result, Alisson might miss several critical matches, including the clash with Manchester City on December 1, followed by games against Newcastle and Everton later that week. Liverpool’s next matches include a Champions League encounter with RB Leipzig and the crucial Premier League showdown with Arsenal.

Last week, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot suggested that Alisson might be out longer than initially thought. He stated, “It feels like a long time until Christmas, so I expect Ali to return before then, but you never know.” Slot emphasized the uncertainty surrounding injury recovery, noting that it’s hard to predict how things will progress in the early stages. He added that a clearer assessment could be made in two or three weeks, as setbacks are always possible.
