However, journalist Charles Watts suggests that Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak could be the ideal addition for Mikel Arteta’s team.
Isak has previously been linked to Arsenal, though no formal offer was made. Watts contends that Isak possesses the agility, skill, and finishing ability that would align perfectly with Arteta’s playing style. The Swedish international has been crucial for Newcastle, demonstrating his game-changing capabilities with his sharp finishing and technical skills, which could enhance Arsenal’s attacking options.
Arteta is said to be closely monitoring the striker market, aware that his team lacks a traditional number nine with the necessary instinct and composure. While Kai Havertz has performed well in a forward position, contributing both goals and assists, he is viewed more as a versatile playmaker than a dedicated striker. Watts believes that, despite the creative talents of Havertz and others, Isak could be the consistent finisher Arsenal needs.

Despite the interest, Arsenal chose not to sign him, leaving the possibility open for another striker search next season. With Newcastle struggling to secure a long-term deal for Alexander Isak, Watts sees an opportunity for Arsenal.
In a recent column for CaughtOffside, Watts praised Isak’s abilities, calling him the “perfect” fit for Arsenal if they seek a forward in the upcoming summer transfer window. He stated, “I’ve always said that Alexander Isak is perfect for Arsenal. He would be at the top of my list if he became available.” Watts emphasized that Isak’s skill set aligns with the Gunners’ ambitions and could fill the long-standing void of a traditional striker.
However, signing Isak would be challenging. He is under contract with Newcastle until 2028, giving the club leverage to retain him or demand a hefty transfer fee. Newcastle has shown reluctance to entertain offers for Isak, considering him a key part of their plans. Even though contract talks have stalled, it would likely take a substantial offer to change Newcastle’s position.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who firmly believes in Isak’s potential, is not expected to let the striker go easily. However, if Arsenal is willing to invest significantly, it could lead to a move that brings an elite scorer to the Emirates. Watts noted that stalled contract discussions might influence the situation, especially if Newcastle senses that Isak could be open to other options.
Watts remarked, “The issue is, however, that Isak’s current deal does not run out until 2028, so Newcastle are still in a very strong position. It would still take huge money to pry him away from St. James’ Park. Whether Arsenal could put that sort of money down for the striker, I have no idea at this point.”
