Barcelona is reportedly considering a move for an Arsenal player who is expected to leave the club in 2025. Thomas Partey, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, is unlikely to receive a new deal at Arsenal, allowing him to sign a pre-contract with clubs outside England starting in January.
Arsenal has had a strong start to the season, currently sitting third in the Premier League. New signings David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori have impressed, while Mikel Merino, who recently recovered from a shoulder injury, is anticipated to play a larger role following the international break.
The speculation around Partey’s future has intensified with Merino’s arrival, especially since Barcelona had shown interest last summer, though Mikel Arteta decided to keep Partey at the time. Now, with new Barcelona coach Hansi Flick reportedly a fan, a move could be on the horizon.
Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020, has made 124 appearances for the club. He faced challenges last season due to injuries, limiting him to just 16 matches, but has been more involved this season with nine appearances so far. If he moves to Barcelona, he could play a supporting role, providing valuable experience to younger talents like Pedri and Gavi.
After Arsenal’s recent victory over PSG, Arteta praised Partey’s performances, noting his excellent condition and importance to the team. Meanwhile, interest in Partey is not limited to Barcelona, as clubs like Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, and several Saudi Arabian teams have also expressed interest. However, Juventus’s recent signings make a transfer there less likely.
