Saudi outfit could have big incentive to try and sign Mo Salah before his Liverpool contract ends
A journalist has highlighted a key incentive that could help a Saudi Pro League club accelerate their efforts to sign Mohamed Salah next year.
Salah, whose contract with Liverpool expires on June 30, 2025, has been the subject of much speculation regarding his future. In the summer of 2023, Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad made a £150 million bid to secure the Egyptian forward, but Liverpool rejected the offer (BBC Sport).
Al-Hilal Targets Salah Move Ahead of Club World Cup
On Monday, speaking on *White and Jordan* on talkSPORT, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Al-Hilal is now in a strong position to sign Salah, with the club potentially aiming to secure him ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup next June.
Jacobs explained: “The target is 2025. Al-Hilal is the club to watch. The Saudi football federation is likely to take advantage of an exceptional transfer window allowed by FIFA before the Club World Cup, which means they could try to sign Salah between June 1 and 10, giving them the chance to have him for both the Saudi Pro League and the Club World Cup.”
He added: “Salah’s move to Saudi Arabia is still on the cards, and Al-Hilal is the most likely destination, especially with the Club World Cup in mind.”
**Salah Likely to Win More Trophies at Liverpool Than Al-Hilal**
From Al-Hilal’s perspective, there is a significant incentive to sign Mohamed Salah before next summer’s expanded Club World Cup, where the Saudi club will be one of the 32 teams competing. However, Salah has already won the tournament in its previous, smaller format with Liverpool in 2019, when the Reds triumphed over Flamengo in the final in Qatar, during a season in which they also secured the Premier League title.
Naturally, every Liverpool fan will hope Salah agrees to a new contract at Anfield long before Al-Hilal has any chance of convincing him to move to Riyadh for the global competition in the USA.
With all due respect to Al-Hilal, Salah is far more likely to win major trophies at Liverpool this season or next than he would with Jorge Jesus’ team. Therefore, it would seem illogical for him to leave the Reds solely to pursue the Club World Cup with Al-Hilal.
