It has come to our attention that Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, has made a shocking announcement regarding Caoimhin Kelleher

Slot makes big Alisson selection statement amid Kelleher’s ‘outstanding’ current form

Liverpool have already faced their share of injury setbacks this season, but Caoimhin Kelleher’s performances in Alisson Becker’s absence have helped alleviate some of those concerns.

After the win against Aston Villa, manager Arne Slot commented on his goalkeepers: “First, Alisson needs to get fully fit, and I’ve always made it clear that, when he is fit, he will be our first-choice goalkeeper.

“But until that happens, Caoimhin [Kelleher] has been outstanding, both last season and again this season. However, once Alisson is back to full fitness, he will return as our number one goalkeeper.”

With Alisson confirmed to be sidelined until after the international break, it seems unlikely he will make an immediate return in the next couple of weeks.

Kelleher’s performance against Unai Emery’s team once again highlighted his skill, and the highest praise you can give him is that Liverpool haven’t missed the world-class Alisson while he’s been out.

Caoimhin Kelleher has been in excellent form as Liverpool sit at the top of the league.

The fact that this conversation is even happening highlights just how well the Irishman is playing for Liverpool this season, but it also explains why he may be considering a move away from Merseyside.

At 25, he’s done nothing wrong, but with Alisson firmly established as the number one, it’s unlikely he’ll ever overtake the former Roma goalkeeper — a frustrating situation for any player.

While Liverpool has one of the best backup keepers in the world, it seems that the long-term future of the academy graduate may lie elsewhere.
