Liverpool manager Arne Slot could clearly be a big factor in the Reds’ favour if they decide to firm up their interest in Benfica star Orkun Kokcu.
The Turkish international was a key player for Slot at Feyenoord, serving as captain when the Dutch coach led them to the Eredivisie title in the 2022/23 season.
Kokcu has continued to impress at Benfica, with a recent Football Insider report suggesting that Liverpool are interested in signing him.
Kokcu has now spoken to Record, expressing his admiration for Slot, who he credits with shaping him into the player he is today, and calling the LFC manager the best coach in the world.
“He made me the player I am today. He is the best coach in the world,” Kokcu said, according to Record.
Will Arne Slot reunite with Orkun Kokcu?
Liverpool would be wise to consider signing a talent like Kokcu, with the 23-year-old showing the potential to perform at the highest level. While the Reds already have a strong midfield, Kokcu could offer something unique, providing extra flair and creativity in that area of the field.
Recent successes of Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City and Martin Ødegaard at Arsenal highlight the effectiveness of a creative midfield role, and Liverpool could benefit from replicating that with someone like Kokcu.
Benfica will likely be reluctant to sell Kokcu, as he is a key player for them. However, it seems inevitable that they will face significant interest in him sooner or later.
The Portuguese club has a history of selling their top talent, including Darwin Núñez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica a couple of years ago.
