Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz involved in a heated argument after Uruguay’s win over Colombia.

Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz appeared to briefly argue with each other after Uruguay’s win over Colombia on Friday night, but any momentary conflict was swiftly put to one side.

The Liverpool teammates found themselves on opposite sides in a thrilling 2026 World Cup qualifier in Montevideo, which featured two goals during a dramatic and lengthy stoppage time.

The visitors thought they had salvaged a point in the 96th minute, only for Manuel Ugarte to score the winner as the match stretched beyond the 100-minute mark.

Nunez and Diaz Clash but Quickly Reconcile
While the post-match scenes between the two teams weren’t as chaotic as after their Copa America semi-final in July, tensions still ran high on the pitch, with both camps exchanging strong words. TV cameras captured what seemed to be a confrontation between Nunez and Diaz, who was captaining Colombia, as emotions understandably boiled over after such an intense finish.

Nunez and Diaz are believed to be the best of friends.

It was no surprise when cameras caught what appeared to be a disagreement between the two after the final whistle, but when they were seen embracing moments later, it became clear that any tension was simply the result of the heat of the moment.

According to Colombian outlet Bolavip, the two South American players are actually very close friends at Liverpool, and even the intensity of World Cup qualifying couldn’t damage their bond in any lasting way.

Once they return to Liverpool later this week—after another round of international matches—they will have long forgotten the brief post-match tension in Montevideo, shifting their focus entirely to maintaining the strong position the Reds have earned this season.
