Barcelona consider extending Szczesny’s contract despite not making an appearance this season

Barcelona is reportedly considering extending Wojciech Szczesny’s contract for another year. Although he has yet to make an appearance this season, the club appreciates his professionalism and his contribution to the team. His current contract expires at the end of the season.

“Although Szczesny hasn’t played yet, he provides balance and competitiveness,” said Barcelona’s sporting director Deco in an interview with Mundo Deportivo. “He has arrived with a positive attitude, and the locker room respects him. The coach ultimately decides who plays, but it’s crucial to have competition within the squad.”

Szczesny joined with the understanding that he would primarily be a backup to Inaki Pena. Pena’s strong form and fitness have kept Szczesny off the pitch, but the club values his efforts and attitude during training.

Szczesny will likely have to wait until January for a chance to play with Barcelona.
