Fierce competition between Barcelona and Manchester City, and Hansi Flick is the secret to closing the deal

Both Manchester City and Barcelona are set to compete for Joshua Kimmich’s signature next summer as they look to strengthen their midfield.

Barcelona, under coach Hansi Flick, is aiming to regain its place among Europe’s elite, and this will require adding high-quality players. According to Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Kimmich is a top target for both clubs due to his impressive physical and technical qualities. With his contract at Bayern Munich expiring, he could be available on a free transfer, making him an opportunity they cannot overlook.

This rare chance to sign a world-class player without a transfer fee has caught the attention of Manchester City, who, under Pep Guardiola, will pursue him vigorously. City plans to pair Kimmich with Rodri Hernández once he recovers from a long-term knee injury, which will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.

However, Barcelona is equally determined to secure Kimmich. They value his versatility and consistent high-level performances, and Flick, who has a close relationship with Kimmich, has personally recommended him. Financially, City holds a clear edge, offering a better salary package.

From a sporting perspective, City can offer Kimmich a more stable and cohesive project, while Barcelona is still in the midst of rebuilding and facing financial difficulties. Nevertheless, Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco are committed to signing Kimmich and will do everything possible to convince him to choose La Liga over offers from City or other clubs.

A key figure in this pursuit is Flick, who aims to facilitate Kimmich’s move to Barcelona, potentially finalizing the deal to ensure the 29-year-old joins the Catalan club.
