Arsenal have been keeping tabs on 22-year-old defender Miguel Gutiérrez since his debut for Real Madrid in 2021. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners recently sent scouts to assess the young player, who is currently contracted to Girona until 2027.
Although there have been no confirmed competitors for Gutiérrez’s signature, speculation suggests Real Madrid might be interested in bringing him back.
Gutiérrez, who came through Real Madrid’s youth ranks, joined Girona in 2022 for €4 million, with a 50% sell-on clause included in the deal. However, with Real Madrid focusing on Fran Garcia and potentially targeting Alphonso Davies, a return to the club seems unlikely at the moment.
While Girona would prefer to retain the full-back until the summer, a significant offer in the January transfer window could force the Catalan club to reconsider.
Are Arsenal Seeking a New Left-Back?
After Kieran Tierney’s loan move to Real Sociedad and Nuno Tavares’ loan to Nottingham Forest (which includes a purchase option), Arsenal are actively looking for left-back reinforcements. Currently, Oleksandr Zinchenko is the only senior left-back available to the club.
Gutiérrez’s impressive performances for Girona, who are currently leading La Liga, have drawn the attention of scouts. The 22-year-old has contributed one assist in 12 appearances across all competitions, showcasing his solid defensive and attacking abilities.
With 46 appearances for Girona to his name, Gutiérrez has piqued the interest of several top clubs, with Arsenal particularly keen on his development.
A standout quality of Gutiérrez’s game is his ability as an inverted full-back, making him an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s tactical setup. Arteta values full-backs who can move inside to support midfield transitions, and Gutiérrez’s style aligns well with this approach, making him a promising option for the Gunners.
