Real Madrid fans have expressed frustration with Ferland Mendy’s performance following their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.
The match, played at Anfield on November 27, saw Liverpool take control, particularly in the second half.
Mendy faced harsh criticism from supporters on X, who pointed to his role in the team’s poor display. The 29-year-old French left-back had a tough time defensively, losing three duels, failing to make any clearances, and contributing nothing in terms of creating chances.
A key moment occurred in the 70th minute when Mendy fouled Mohamed Salah inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty. Although Salah’s attempt hit the post, avoiding a worse outcome for Mendy, it underscored his struggles throughout the match.
Mendy was substituted for Fran Garcia after the penalty, but the change had little impact on the result. Liverpool sealed the victory with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.
Frustrated Real Madrid supporters quickly voiced their discontent on X, with many demanding Mendy be removed from the starting lineup. This defeat is a significant setback for Real Madrid, who are still struggling to find form in the Champions League.
With tougher matches ahead, they will need substantial improvement to progress in the tournament.
