Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has put fans on high alert after they saw what he posted to Instagram on Friday afternoon.
Salah, 32, has been the focus of significant media attention recently, as his current contract is set to expire in June 2024 unless the clubs reach a new agreement.
After Liverpool’s 3-2 win against Southampton at St Mary’s last Sunday, Salah spoke with reporters outside the stadium, sharing that he felt “more out than in” regarding his contract situation.
“We’re almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay at the club,” he said. “I’m probably more out than in.”
When asked if he was disappointed by the lack of an offer, Salah replied, “Of course, yes. I’m not retiring anytime soon, so I’m just focusing on the season, trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. It’s disappointing, but we’ll see.”
Since then, Jamie Carragher voiced his disappointment with Salah’s comments, and the Egyptian forward started in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, although he missed a second-half penalty.
On Friday, Salah’s latest social media post sparked speculation among Liverpool fans. The former Chelsea player shared an Instagram story showing him walking toward Liverpool’s ‘AXA Training Centre’ in Kirkby, Liverpool.
While the exact meaning of the photo is unclear, Liverpool fans were quick to share their interpretations. One fan wrote, “Sign the contract, big boy,” while another commented, “Ready to sign a new contract.” A third fan added, “Mo just has that aura around him. This man needs to be paid!” A fourth suggested, “He’s using leverage to get the best deal. Both sides seem eager to reach an agreement, so it’s likely to happen.”
Salah is expected to start in Liverpool’s Premier League match against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, with a win potentially putting the Reds 11 points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s team.
