Karim Benzema, the former star of Al-Ittihad Jeddah and Real Madrid, is reportedly attempting to convince Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy to join Al-Ittihad next season. Real Madrid is planning to offload several first-team players at the end of the current season to make room for fresh talent in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Spanish newspaper Defensa Central, Benzema is working to persuade Mendy, his fellow Frenchman, to make the move to Saudi Arabia. The report suggests that with Real Madrid planning to sign Bayern Munich’s left-back Alphonso Davies, Mendy’s chances of staying with the team are slim, especially since he does not want to be relegated to a bench role after being a regular starter.
Real Madrid is reportedly open to Mendy’s departure, as they see Fran García as a viable alternative to Davies. The report also highlights that Mendy’s underwhelming performances this season have cost the team several matches, making the club more willing to let him go. Despite renewing his contract with Real Madrid just two months ago until the summer of 2027, Mendy’s future at the club looks uncertain.
