Barcelona is currently experiencing its worst phase of the season in La Liga, following a promising start. However, the team quickly reverted to the patterns seen in recent years. The defeat to Las Palmas at Montjuïc raised alarm bells within the club, exposing many of the flaws that had been hidden behind their earlier successes.
In an interview with Spanish radio station “Radio Catalonia,” French football legend Thierry Henry shared his thoughts on how to restore Barcelona to its former glory. Henry commented on the team’s shocking loss to Las Palmas and their recent struggles, stating that this defeat could have significant consequences by the end of the season, possibly giving Real Madrid an opportunity to regain the top spot and retain the La Liga title.
Regarding advice for Barcelona’s management and coach Hansi Flick, Henry emphasized that the team’s rebuilding should start by offloading 8 players from the first team.
He highlighted Frenkie de Jong, who he believes has not made an impact since joining, and stressed the need to sign a creative midfielder who can make a difference. Henry also mentioned that players such as Hector Bellerín, Gerard Piqué, Ansu Fati, and Eric García should be sold, and more capable players should be brought in for their positions, as those roles are crucial and the current players are not stepping up when needed.
He also recommended that Ferran Torres leave, as he doesn’t meet the level required to represent Barcelona, and raised concerns about Iñaki Peña’s abilities, suggesting that Barcelona deserves a better goalkeeper. Finally, Henry stated that Barcelona should move Jules Koundé back to his central defensive role, as continuing to use him at left-back could lead to disastrous results for the team this season.
