Jorge Mendes offers pearl of Europe on a golden platter to Barcelona

FC Barcelona has the chance to secure one of European football’s brightest prospects, thanks to Jorge Mendes. The influential agent has presented Joan Laporta with the opportunity to sign Geovany Quenda, a 17-year-old rising star who has been a standout performer this season at Sporting de Portugal. This potential signing aims to bolster the attacking wings, an area where Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres have underperformed, leaving Raphinha and Lamine Yamal to shoulder most of the responsibility.

Geovany Quenda, born in 2007, belongs to the same generation as Lamine Yamal, but his impact on professional football has been equally impressive. Since making his debut for Sporting de Portugal’s first team this season, he has become a key starter under manager Rúben Amorim, who is also set to take over at Manchester United. In just a few months, Quenda has proven himself to be a standout player, with remarkable speed, dribbling skills, and an innate ability to create danger from the wing.

Barcelona’s interest in Quenda is shared by other European giants, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City. For Manchester City, the connection between Quenda and Hugo Viana, the current sporting director of Sporting and future signing manager at City, could play a pivotal role in securing his move there. However, Barcelona is relying on Jorge Mendes’ influence and the appeal of their project to persuade the young Portuguese talent to join them.

Quenda’s market value is currently €15 million, according to Transfermarkt, a figure expected to rise in the coming months due to his performances and the growing competition for his signature. Nevertheless, Joan Laporta and Deco believe investing in the young winger could be a smart move, especially if they can outmaneuver Premier League clubs and secure the deal before his price soars.

At Camp Nou, signing Geovany Quenda would be a bet for the medium and long term, but it could also make an immediate impact. His ability to compete from day one would provide depth and quality to the attacking wings, an area where Barcelona needs better alternatives. If Barça successfully completes the deal, it could secure one of the future stars of world football, further advancing their strategy of rejuvenating the squad with exceptionally talented players.

The race for Quenda is expected to be fierce, but with the backing of Jorge Mendes, Barça is prepared to take the necessary steps to bring the “boy” who is shaking up European football to Barcelona.
