Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign a striker who could be a replacement for Darwin Nunez.
The Reds have made an impressive start to the 2024/25 season under their new manager Arne Slot, currently sitting at the top of both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
However, their lead in the Premier League was reduced to just seven points after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
Although Mohamed Salah seemed to have secured the win with a goal in the 83rd minute to give Liverpool a 3-2 lead, Fabian Schar scored in the 90th minute to level the game for the Magpies.
Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez faced significant criticism after squandering several key opportunities during the match.
As a result, reports suggest that Liverpool may be looking to bring in a new striker.
According to Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato, Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram. The French striker has attracted interest from several clubs after scoring nine goals in 13 Serie A appearances. It is believed that Inter Milan would allow Thuram to leave if his ÂŁ70 million release clause is triggered.
However, it is uncommon for Liverpool to spend such a large amount on a player aged 27 or older, so it remains uncertain whether this interest will lead to any further developments.
Speaking last month after France’s 3-1 victory over Italy at the San Siro, Thuram expressed his admiration for the iconic stadium. He said, “I love this stadium, I love San Siro. The game against Italy was strange for me. I played against my brothers, which was very strange, but I love all of them, and I was happy to cross paths with them.”
Liverpool will return to Premier League action this weekend, facing Everton at Goodison Park.
