Manchester United fans have turned on ONE player following their crushing home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Manchester United suffered their sixth Premier League defeat of the season as Ruben Amorim’s team fell 3-2 to Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The visitors took the lead early with Nikola Milenkovic heading in from a corner. However, Manchester United responded quickly, leveling the score through Rasmus Hojlund.
In the second half, the hosts capitalized on United’s mistakes, scoring twice in just seven minutes. Morgan Gibbs-White put Forest ahead, followed by Chris Wood’s looping header, which made it 3-1. Bruno Fernandes pulled one back for United just after the hour mark.
Fans of Manchester United took to social media to voice their frustration, particularly over Lisandro Martinez’s performance, which played a role in two of Forest’s goals. Martinez failed to prevent Milenkovic from scoring off the set-piece and then allowed Wood’s header to slip past him as it sailed over goalkeeper Andre Onana.
One user wrote: “Martinez has to go. He’s so poor.” Another tweeted: “Can’t believe Lisandro Martinez used to get compared to the likes of VVD and Saliba.” A third added: “I now see the inadequacy of Lisandro Martinez in corners.” A fourth said: “Yeh Lisandro Martinez, you were a good dude, but it’s time to go.” Another commented: “Lisandro Martinez proving again why he is the worst defender when it comes to aerial coverage.”
Lisandro Martinez was brought to Manchester United by Erik ten Hag in a £57 million transfer. Since joining in the summer of 2022, he has made 77 appearances across all competitions. However, his recent performances have fallen short of expectations, leaving many United supporters frustrated with his latest display.
Despite the loss, Manchester United remain in 13th place in the Premier League standings. They will return to league action next Sunday with a crucial derby against cross-town rivals Manchester City.
