David Ornstein drops Mo Salah Liverpool contract bombshell and update on Virgil van Dijk and Trent-Alexander Arnold offers

David Ornstein has dropped a major update on the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

Salah’s contract at Anfield is set to expire in June 2025, with Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold also entering the final six months of their respective deals. While Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold have not provided much information about their ongoing contract talks, Salah surprised many by stating that he felt “more out than in” following Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Southampton last month. He also mentioned that he had not received an offer from the club yet and did not rule out the possibility that the 2-0 win against Manchester City could be his last home game against the Premier League champions.

However, a new update from Ornstein in The Athletic suggests a potential turning point. According to “anonymous sources familiar with the situation,” Liverpool has now presented their first contract offer to Salah, after already making offers to Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold. The report also highlights a growing belief at the club that all three players will remain, though no agreement has been reached and it’s uncertain if Salah will accept the offer. Negotiations are ongoing with all three players.

One of the main sticking points in Salah’s case is the length and value of the contract, as the forward will turn 33 in June.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah, and Virgil van Dijk are all set to be out of contract at Liverpool next summer. Van Dijk is in a similar situation age-wise, as he will turn 34 in July, while Alexander-Arnold, at 26, faces a different scenario and is reportedly attracting strong interest from Real Madrid.

Salah is having one of his best seasons at Liverpool, with 13 goals and 8 assists in just 14 Premier League matches. His most recent brace came in the 3-3 draw against Newcastle, where he helped Liverpool recover after falling 2-1 behind.

As all three players are out of contract, they can begin negotiating pre-contract agreements with European clubs starting January 1, which could place Liverpool at a disadvantage if talks stall. However, they won’t need to worry about interest from English clubs just yet, as those discussions can only begin once the players enter the final month of their contracts.
