Alisson Becker is set to make his return for Liverpoolâs Champions League match in Spain on Tuesday. The Brazilian goalkeeper has been out since October due to a hamstring injury he sustained during a 1-0 win at Selhurst Park. In his absence, Caoimhin Kelleher has stepped in, helping Liverpool maintain their top position in both the Premier League and the new European competition. Alissonâs inclusion in the 19-player squad traveling to Catalonia, as confirmed by Liverpool FC on X (formerly Twitter), indicates he is progressing in his recovery.
It remains unclear whether Alisson will start against 30th-placed Girona. Manager Arne Slot may prefer to wait until Alisson is fully fit before reinstating him as the first-choice goalkeeper. Slot previously mentioned, “We are just waiting for the moment Alisson is completely fit because Caoimh is doing too well to put Alisson in goal if he is only 50%.”
Considering Gironaâs limited experience in European competitions, Liverpool may choose to give Alisson more time to recover. Regardless, the team is fortunate to have a dependable backup in Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher.
The full 19-man squad for Liverpool includes: Alisson, Kelleher, Jaros, Gomez, Endo, Van Dijk, Diaz, Szoboszlai, Nunez, Salah, Jones, Gakpo, Elliott, Robertson, Gravenberch, McConnell, Alexander-Arnold, Norris, and Quansah.
