Arsenal’s Transfer Plans for January and Summer
Arsenal is expected to have a quiet transfer window in January.
Reports suggest that the club’s strategy for the upcoming transfer periods has been revealed.
While Arsenal aims to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad for the 2025 season, it seems unlikely they will make many signings in January, according to sources.
An early-season injury crisis affected Arsenal’s campaign, but they have regained their form in recent weeks. They currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
Arsenal has previously signed players in January, such as Jorginho and Leandro Trossard. However, ESPN reports that they are not likely to repeat that approach this time around.
Unless another injury crisis occurs, Arsenal is expected to hold off on new signings in January, focusing instead on preparing for a potentially busy summer transfer window.
The Athletic has reported that Arsenal plans to target attacking reinforcements, including a new striker and a winger to provide strong cover for Bukayo Saka.
Potential targets include Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP and Alexander Isak of Newcastle United. Gyokeres could be available for around €70m (£58.2m), while Isak’s price tag is expected to be almost double that amount.
Additionally, Arsenal is looking to add youth to their midfield, especially as veteran players like Jorginho and Thomas Partey are expected to depart eventually. While Mikel Merino, a summer acquisition, is 28 years old, he doesn’t significantly reduce the squad’s overall age.
Arsenal is also planning to sign at least one new goalkeeper to challenge David Raya. Neto, the current backup, is on loan from Bournemouth, and there was already a plan to recruit a high-quality third-choice keeper last summer.
