He confirmed that there are currently no internal discussions or solid plans for a move. Plettenberg also noted that while Sane could potentially leave Bayern Munich on a free transfer next summer, the club is not actively working on a contract extension for the 28-year-old at the moment.
Probably not someone Liverpool need right now
While Plettenberg has downplayed the likelihood of Liverpool pursuing Sane, Christian Falk, Head of Football at BILD, has recently suggested there has been contact between the two sides, with the 28-year-old reportedly on Liverpool’s radar. Both journalists are generally trustworthy when it comes to transfer news, so their conflicting reports leave us uncertain about how serious Liverpool’s interest in the Bayern winger really is.
If, as seems increasingly probable, Salah agrees to a new contract, Liverpool’s focus could shift to other areas of the squad that require more urgent attention. For example, ongoing defensive injuries have left the team thin in that department.
If Sane’s contract situation at Bayern continues without resolution, Liverpool might look to take advantage of the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer, similar to how they’ve been linked with his teammate Alphonso Davies in recent days.
At the moment, a move for Sane appears unlikely, but in the constantly changing world of football transfers, it’s a rumor that can’t be entirely dismissed just yet.
