Liverpool could hijack transfer for Man Utd’s dream signing and it’d be a disaster for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United may have to fend off interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool if they want to sign one of their reported transfer targets in 2025

From the beginning, Ruben Amorim was clear about his intention to acquire a new left-back.

In fact, following United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on November 24, he made the position his top priority, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, who also mentioned several potential transfer targets.

One of the players mentioned was Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, although it now seems increasingly likely that Liverpool will make a move for the highly-rated Hungarian defender.

As expected, Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who has long been linked with a transfer to Real Madrid, also appeared on the list.

The 24-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, and he will be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs starting in January.

In light of this, Bundesliga expert Christian Falk shared an update on Davies’ situation, revealing that his agent “could” meet with Liverpool, as they “naturally have a chance” of securing his signature.

“Indeed, Alphonso Davies is open to the idea of leaving Bayern Munich,” Falk stated in his Fact Files column. “He’s not fully committed to Manchester United or Real Madrid. I’ve heard that discussions with Bayern are currently on hold until January.

“His agent, Nick Huoseh, plans to meet with any top club expressing interest in the new year. During his visit to England, Liverpool might have the chance to meet him. It could be a good fit for Davies, as their style of play suits him. Liverpool, of course, have an opportunity.”

Falk further added, “At this stage, Manchester United and Real Madrid seem to be more serious contenders. Bayern are still pushing to extend his contract, and they remain optimistic about reaching an agreement. However, Liverpool remains in the race if they choose to pursue him.”

Mick Brown, a former chief scout at Manchester United and Blackburn, recently stated that Liverpool is competing to sign Alphonso Davies.

“From what I hear, Liverpool have had scouts watching him,” he told Football Insider. “They’ll have a good understanding of his qualities and will be evaluating how good they believe he is.

“The fact that he’s available on a free transfer is a major attraction, especially for a player of his reputation, as he’s highly regarded. Many top clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, are interested, so Liverpool might struggle to match their financial power.

“But if they’re paying such close attention to him, they must feel confident they can strike a deal.

Brown also noted: “There have been some questions about Robertson’s performances this season, and a left-back is clearly on their radar. If they can’t finalize this deal, they’ll need to explore other options.”

What are your thoughts on the interest in Davies? Feel free to share.
