Former Barça Player to Buy Espanyol and Going All In: 300 Million

Espanyol has been on the market for some time, and a potential sale could be finalized in the coming months. However, the prospective buyer is not a billionaire entrepreneur but a former FC Barcelona player who aspires to take ownership. This individual is Martin Braithwaite, who left a lasting impression at Cornellà and is now interested in acquiring the “perico” club.

According to La Grada, a media outlet focused on Espanyol, Braithwaite has enlisted one of Spain’s top law firms to manage the process. He is prepared to make a substantial investment but seeks support from an investment group to present a proposal that will be well-received by the fans.

Braithwaite has informed Espanyol of his desire to take control of the club and is currently evaluating its situation. His interest is genuine, and he is making serious preparations to submit a proposal that may convince the current owner, Chinese businessman Chen Yansheng.

In addition to his sports career (he currently plays for Gremio), Braithwaite has built considerable wealth.

With a Fortune Over $300 Million
Martin Braithwaite has sufficient funds to purchase Espanyol, provided he partners with an investment group. His real estate assets in the United States are valued at over €230 million, and he is involved in numerous projects.

Besides real estate, Braithwaite also has other significant business ventures. In Gavà, he owns the restaurant Braithwaite’s.

With the wealth he’s accumulated, the Danish player is interested in taking ownership of Espanyol, but before making a final offer, he is thoroughly assessing the situation. He needs to evaluate the club’s financial health to make an informed decision and plans to involve financial partners in the process.

Espanyol Has a Set Price, and Martin Braithwaite Can Afford It
Around a year ago, Espanyol’s current owner, Chen Yansheng, listed the club for sale at approximately €120 million. This price would increase by an additional €50 million if the club secured promotion to La Liga.

In total, the asking price for Espanyol stands at €170 million—a sum Martin Braithwaite is well-positioned to pay to acquire majority ownership of the club.
