Liverpool were outstanding in the first half against Tottenham and came out for the second half with even more determination, especially Mo Salah.
Before the match, Salah was just one goal shy of the iconic Billy Liddell, who had more appearances at Anfield than anyone and was the second-highest scorer in the club’s history.
By the time the game kicked off on Sunday, Liddell was still ranked fourth on the club’s all-time list, but then Salah stepped up.
In his 373rd appearance for Liverpool, Salah saw Andy Robertson make a brilliant tackle to start a counterattack, and the team moved forward as one.
As Cody Gakpo delivered a cross, Dominik Szoboszlai couldn’t finish, but Salah was right there to match the record held by the former No. 11.
Just a few minutes later, Szoboszlai and Salah combined once more, with a well-timed pass allowing Salah to break a record set in March 1960, surpassing it in 161 fewer games than Liddell had played.
Salah surpassing Liddell’s Anfield legacy is a huge milestone in his career.
After becoming the first player in Premier League history to register 10 or more goals and 10 or more assists before Christmas, it was undoubtedly a memorable day for the former Roma star.
If he aims to keep breaking records set by our legendary Scotsman, the only position he hasn’t played for Liverpool is goalkeeper – so that’s another challenge for Mo to take on!
For now, though, Salah has his sights set on breaking Gordon Hodgson’s scoring record!
