Enzo Maresca has reportedly sanctioned a Chelsea fire sale ahead of the January transfer window, with FIVE players set to leave the club.
Chelsea have become unexpected contenders for the Premier League title after a strong start to the season.
With 35 points from 18 matches, they are set to resume their league campaign against Ipswich Town on Monday.
Maresca may explore the transfer market to bring in new players to boost his team’s chances of winning trophies this season.
To make space for potential new signings, some current players could be sold.
According to BBC Sport, five players are likely to leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.
Ben Chilwell is the most prominent player thought to be on the way out, as the 28-year-old has made only one appearance this season.
Carney Chukwuemeka’s future also seems to be away from Chelsea, with the club reportedly seeking his full £40 million release clause.
Maresca has acknowledged that both Chilwell and Chukwuemeka are available for permanent transfers.
“Probably they are the first [to say] that they want to leave because they train every day, because they want to play games, and if they don’t play, they are likely considering leaving,” he said about Chilwell and Chukwuemeka before Christmas. “Each player is in a different situation, so we’ll see if any come knocking on the door to say ‘I want to leave’. We’ll try to find a solution.”
Cesare Casadei may also depart Chelsea in January, though the club is reportedly considering a loan move to ensure the 21-year-old gets more playing time.
Both Feyenoord and Monza have shown interest in the Italian midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Leicester City.
Harvey Vale, a product of Chelsea’s youth academy, is expected to leave the club with under six months remaining on his current contract.
The 21-year-old has caught the attention of clubs in the Championship and across Europe.
Alex Matos could also leave Chelsea on a permanent transfer.
