Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing one of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ key players ahead of the winter transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
The Gunners have struggled to meet expectations this season, currently trailing Premier League leaders Liverpool by nine points. Injuries have significantly impacted their form, with Bukayo Saka out for over two months following hamstring surgery after Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
This situation may lead Arsenal to seek new signings in January. The Daily Mail suggests that Wolves forward Matheus Cunha is a primary target. The Brazilian international has reportedly been on Arsenal’s radar for several months, and Wolves have yet to finalize a new contract with him.
Cunha could be an important addition for Arsenal in the middle of the season. The 25-year-old has had an impressive campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 19 league appearances. Besides his goal-scoring, Cunha is known for his pressing, ball recoveries, and success in both ground and aerial duels, averaging 5.7 per game.
Though he usually plays as a center-forward, Cunha has shown versatility, excelling in attacking midfield and performing well on either wing. His flexibility could make him a great fit for Mikel Arteta’s tactical system.
However, Wolves may be reluctant to part with Cunha in January. After securing him permanently for £44 million, they could demand around £60 million to consider selling. Arsenal would need to make a substantial offer to land him.
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has praised Cunha as a “special player,” and the prospect of competing for trophies could make the Brazilian open to a move to the Emirates mid-season.
