Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has only scored two goals in the Premier League this season after 14 appearances.
The Uruguayan has struggled to make an impact under manager Arne Slot. Despite being given several chances due to injuries to other forwards, Nunez has not been able to find his form, while Slot has managed to improve the performances of other players at Anfield.
As a result, the Premier League leaders are now considering replacing him with a more prolific forward.
According to Teamtalk, Liverpool is monitoring Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram as potential replacements for Nunez. Both players have been in excellent form this season, making Liverpool’s interest unsurprising.
Liverpool want a new striker to lead their attack
Isak has scored 12 goals in 17 Premier League matches this season for Eddie Howe’s side, while Thuram has netted 12 times in 18 Serie A appearances for the Italian champions.
Signing either Isak or Thuram would enhance Liverpool’s attack and provide a potent goal-scoring option alongside Mohamed Salah.
However, the report states that Liverpool is hesitant to meet the high asking price for Isak, with Newcastle United reportedly seeking a record fee for their striker, which has made the Reds reluctant to proceed.
Acquiring an attacker like Isak or Thuram in the January transfer window would be challenging for Liverpool, and they may have to wait until the summer to pursue such a significant signing.
Financially, the Reds are in a strong position to spend, as they did not invest heavily in last summer’s transfer window.
Meanwhile, Serie A club AC Milan has been linked with a move for Nunez.
