Liverpool set to recall player after causing problems at his loan club with role which left team-mates ‘astonished

Liverpool could be set to ‘terminate’ a player’s loan, which would see him return to the club in January – but a Spanish club are ‘interested’.

Arne Slot is likely satisfied with his start at Merseyside, as his team is currently leading both the Premier League and the 36-team group stage at the season’s midway point.

Tomorrow, they will face Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United at Anfield, having previously triumphed 3-0 over the Red Devils in September.

Off the field, however, Slot, 46, has had to address several high-profile controversies during his brief time at the club. As is widely known, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk all have contracts expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season, and with the transfer window now open, they are eligible to discuss potential pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.

Meanwhile, a previously overlooked player may be on the verge of returning to the club, with reports suggesting that Liverpool is in negotiations to end his current loan deal. According to Rousing The Kop, the Reds are in discussions with RB Salzburg to cut short Stefan Bajcetic’s loan. The 20-year-old has made 12 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga this season but has yet to register a goal or assist.

It was believed that Stefan Bajcetic’s loan move was influenced by former Liverpool assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders, who was the head coach at RB Salzburg at the start of the season, but has since parted ways with the club.

In October, Austrian outlet Krone reported that Bajcetic left his teammates “astonished” by repeatedly being selected for the starting lineup despite underperforming. Additionally, he was fined by the club for arriving late to a training session. Now, according to Rousing The Kop, Bajcetic has removed any mention of Salzburg from his Instagram and is reportedly “no longer happy” at the Austrian club.

It remains uncertain whether Bajcetic will be included in Arne Slot’s plans or sent on loan to another club. TBR has reported that Liverpool is in “advanced discussions” with La Liga side Real Betis regarding a possible transfer.

Fabrizio Romano also provided an update on the situation via X, stating, “Real Betis are in advanced talks to sign Stefan Bajcetic on a loan deal from Liverpool. Not done yet but progressing.”
