An update regarding Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United has emerged after the Met Office issued an amber weather warning ahead of the much-anticipated fixture.
A BBC reporter has provided an update on the upcoming Liverpool vs Manchester United match, which is at risk of being canceled due to severe weather conditions. The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning ahead of the match, forecasting heavy snow, freezing rain, and disruptions to public transport.
In the lead-up to Sunday’s Premier League clash, there were concerns over whether the game would be postponed. Temperatures were expected to fall below freezing near Anfield in the early hours of Sunday, and the Met Office warned of hazardous travel conditions. The weather is expected to include persistent snow, with up to 7cm of snow likely, and possible freezing rain, particularly in Wales and the southern Pennines.
A decision regarding the match has been delayed until midday, with a Safety Advisory Group scheduled to meet again due to expected changes in the weather. The group had initially planned to meet at 9 am to assess the situation, focusing on the safety of access to the stadium, although the pitch and stadium conditions are not a concern. Further discussions were scheduled for 11:45 am, with officials from both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council expected to attend.
Liverpool has issued another update regarding the situation.
The statement read: “A safety meeting was conducted this morning to evaluate the weather and travel conditions ahead of today’s match against Manchester United at Anfield.
“As of now, the match is scheduled to proceed as planned, and every effort is being made to ensure the game goes ahead. Another safety meeting will be held at midday to review the latest conditions.
“We will provide an update to supporters as soon as possible. Please stay safe, Reds.”
In the footage above, Sky Sports reporter Vinny O’Connor shared a video of Anfield at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The most recent update follows the postponement of the Merseyside derby in December due to extreme weather and strong winds, which caused significant travel disruptions in the Merseyside area.
A Safety Advisory Group meeting was held at Goodison Park, where it was determined that, due to safety concerns in the local area and an amber severe wind warning, the match would be postponed for safety reasons.
