Chelsea’s struggles in the Premier League continued this weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. This result extends their poor run, having earned only two points from their last four league matches.
The Blues initially went ahead in the first half through Cole Palmer, who scored his 13th goal of the season with an excellent assist from Jadon Sancho. However, they were unable to secure a victory as Crystal Palace equalized in the 82nd minute when Jean-Philippe Mateta converted from close range.
After the match, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed his frustration with the team’s inability to capitalize on their chances, specifically mentioning striker Nicolas Jackson’s failure to convert key opportunities.
“For a striker, sometimes they score all their chances, sometimes they don’t,” Maresca said. “He had two or three clear chances today, which shows he’s in the right position. Hopefully, next time he’ll be luckier.”
Maresca emphasized the importance of creating chances while acknowledging the need to improve in finishing them.
“The key is to create chances because that shows we’re doing the right things, but we must take them. We aim to intensify our preparation during the week, even though our intensity and intentions are already at a high level. It’s something we need to improve, even though we are one of the top teams in terms of goal-scoring.”
Despite their league position, Chelsea’s recent performances have raised concerns, with Maresca and his team facing increasing pressure to improve results quickly.
