The Reds were held to a draw in an exciting match. In the first half, United managed to contain Liverpool’s strong attack while also creating several dangerous counterattacks.
The second half saw more open play, with chances at both ends. United took the lead in the 52nd minute when Lisandro Martinez scored after receiving a pass from Bruno Fernandes. Alexander-Arnold lost possession in the build-up, which led to the goal.
Liverpool quickly responded, with Cody Gakpo scoring an impressive goal that left Matthijs de Ligt in an awkward position. The home side took the lead in the 70th minute when Mohamed Salah converted a penalty.
Though it seemed like Liverpool was on track for a win, they conceded again late in the match. A cross from Alejandro Garnacho found Amad Diallo, who scored past Alisson to level the score, with Alexander-Arnold out of position once more.
Rumored to be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, Alexander-Arnold had a disappointing performance, with most of United’s key chances coming from his side.
In addition to his mistakes on the goals, he was repeatedly exposed defensively in the first half.
During halftime, Roy Keane criticized the Liverpool right-back on Sky Sports, saying:
“Trent Alexander-Arnold has been all over the place defensively. His defending has been schoolboy stuff. He’s got to do better.
“They’re talking about him going to Real Madrid. The way he’s defending, he’s going to Tranmere Rovers after this. He’s got to do better.”
