Viktor Gyokeres has made a timely statement regarding his potential transfer to Arsenal, reinforcing his position as a key target for Mikel Arteta’s side. With the January transfer window open, Gyokeres’ recent performances have reminded Arteta that he should be the top choice if the manager is looking for a new attacker this month.
In his latest match, the Swedish international scored a hat-trick—his 71st, 72nd, and 73rd goals in 78 appearances for his Portuguese club. He found the net in the 2nd, 14th, and 57th minutes. Unfortunately for Gyokeres, his goals couldn’t secure a win, as Sporting Lisbon were forced to settle for a 4-4 draw against Vitoria SC, continuing their difficult run of form.
Sporting’s once unbeaten record was broken in November, and the club has since been struggling after manager Ruben Amorim’s departure to Manchester United, with their new coach already dismissed. While Gyokeres has a €100m (£83m) release clause, reports suggest there is an agreement in place allowing him to leave for a lower fee next summer.
