Liverpool’s poor January is about to get worse as the player they reportedly made a £41 million bid for has been forced off with an injury.
Liverpool’s difficult January is about to worsen, as the player they allegedly made a £41 million offer for has been injured.
The Reds have had an impressive start under new manager Arne Slot, who took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
At the halfway point of the 2024/25 season, Liverpool is leading both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
However, recent losses to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have raised questions about their ability to maintain their strong form.
Earlier this week, reports emerged that Liverpool had bid £41 million for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool’s offer for the 24-year-old was £41 million.
Tchouameni had previously been linked with a move to Liverpool but opted for a transfer to Madrid instead.
On Thursday night, Tchouameni started for Real Madrid in their Supercopa de Espana semi-final match against Mallorca in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
In the 51st minute, Tchouameni went down after a collision with an opposing player in the penalty area.
There were immediate concerns about a possible serious head injury, but the Frenchman walked off the pitch and was substituted in the 55th minute for Raul Asencio.
Depending on the severity of the injury, this could be a significant setback for Madrid’s season, as well as for Liverpool’s chances of attracting the midfielder to Anfield in the near future.
Following Tchouameni’s substitution, Madrid took the lead in the 63rd minute when England midfielder Jude Bellingham scored the opening goal to make it 1-0.
