Man Utd handed huge Viktor Gyokeres transfer boost as ‘gentleman’s agreement’ reached

Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres for a bargain price following a new bombshell report.

Viktor Gyökeres was a key figure for Ruben Amorim during his time at Sporting, famously scoring a hat-trick against Manchester City in one of Amorim’s final matches as the head coach of the Portuguese club.

Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United has had a mixed start, with just two wins in his first nine Premier League games. However, positive results like a win at the Etihad and a draw at Anfield have provided some hope for the future.

Reports suggest that Amorim could look to strengthen his attacking options in January, especially after tensions reportedly reached an all-time high with forward Joshua Zirkzee.

Amorim Receives Major Gyökeres Boost

Despite this, Amorim may choose to wait until the summer to make a move, as reports suggest Gyökeres could be available for a reduced fee. According to Record Portugal, the Swedish striker has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Sporting to allow his departure for a fee between £58.6 million and £62.8 million, rather than his £83 million release clause.

Gyökeres’ decision to stay in Portugal last summer is believed to have been influenced by Amorim, making a move this summer more likely. The 26-year-old forward has been prolific, scoring 74 goals in 79 appearances for Sporting since his move from the Championship. His potential arrival at Old Trafford could signal the true beginning of Amorim’s era at Manchester United.

David Ornstein has provided an update on Manchester United’s financial situation and their ability to navigate Financial Fair Play (PSR) rules during the January transfer window. According to Ornstein, a summer move for players like Viktor Gyökeres would likely be more feasible for United, as they are at risk of breaching PSR regulations if they make significant spending this month.

On The Athletic podcast, Ornstein explained: “The way it has been explained to me is that Manchester United are going to be OK on PSR this month. It’s not like the walls are collapsing on their financial situation – it’s not great, clearly, they’ve got work to do. But I do think there is a bit of scope to do something [in the January window].”

While there is still room for activity in January, it seems United may hold off on major signings now and focus more on the summer transfer market to better align with their financial constraints.
