After his contract renewal with Bayern Munich is close and Perez’s attempts to sign him have failed, Real Madrid star “celebrates” not signing Alphonso Davies

The potential signing of Alphonso Davies would have been a major boost for Real Madrid, as the Canadian full-back is considered one of the best in his position and could have become the team’s first-choice left-back.

According to the Spanish newspaper “Defensa Central,” had Davies joined, he would likely have been an automatic starter. This scenario caused Ferland Mendy to hope the deal fell through, especially after renewing his contract until June 2027. Mendy does not want to be relegated to a backup role or forced to leave the club. While Mendy aspires to continue his journey at Real Madrid, he admits that his recent performances haven’t been up to his usual standards.

Mendy is aware that his current form has not met Real Madrid’s expectations. He’s struggling physically, making poor decisions, and lacking focus in matches. It’s likely that the prospect of Davies joining the team has been weighing on Mendy’s mind in recent months.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti remains confident in Mendy and Fran Garcia’s abilities to perform at left-back for the team. Despite both players not being at their peak, the coach believes they’ll return to their best form soon, especially Mendy, who played a key role in Real Madrid’s back-to-back Champions League wins.

It’s essential for both players to stay motivated and compete for a starting spot, as this competition will help them improve. However, Real Madrid is not currently pursuing any other left-back signings. After the Davies deal fell through, there is no immediate need for a replacement. With Fran Garcia’s new contract until 2027 and Mendy’s recent renewal for the same period, neither player will need to leave now that the deal for Davies has collapsed.
