Benjamin Sesko has reportedly agreed to join Arsenal, with the transfer expected to be completed soon. This move comes as Arsenal deals with ongoing injury problems, leading the club to consider bringing forward one of their summer targets. While Barcelona is also interested in Sesko, their financial constraints may limit their ability to compete with Arsenal.
According to Mirror Football’s John Cross, Sesko had previously indicated a preference for joining Arsenal over other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as Italian teams. The 21-year-old Slovenian forward, currently with RB Leipzig, had originally planned to stay for another season in Germany but now appears set for a move.
Sesko has a £60m “gentleman’s agreement” with RB Leipzig, allowing him to leave in the summer of 2025 unless a significant offer is made in January. While Leipzig is committed to honoring this agreement, they may be persuaded by an attractive bid. Barcelona’s financial struggles could give Arsenal the upper hand in securing the forward, although waiting until the summer could bring more competition.
Arsenal is also exploring other attacking options for this window, including Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao, though his high wage demands of over £300,000 per week could pose a challenge. Other potential targets include Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.
Strengthening the attack is crucial for Arsenal as they contend with injuries to key players. Bukayo Saka is recovering from a hamstring injury, and Gabriel Jesus is sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee issue. Mikel Arteta has emphasized the need for reinforcements, stating, “We are actively searching for the best solution. Losing two key attacking players has made us in need of more support.”
With Sesko eager to join, Arsenal is determined to move quickly to finalize the deal, hoping to secure a top forward and maintain their competitiveness for the rest of the season.
