They announce Pedri’s request to Hansi Flick, surprise at Barça: ‘He doesn’t want…’

Pedri has made a surprising request to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, making it clear that he prefers to play full matches rather than being rested, even against seemingly weaker opponents. At 22 years old, Pedri has firmly established himself as the engine of Barça’s midfield. He has played 31 matches so far this season, scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists, while logging 89% of the team’s minutes without any major physical concerns.

Journalist David Ibáñez shared on the ElDesmarqueTwitch channel that Pedri has expressed to Flick that skipping games doesn’t suit him due to his metabolism and mindset. Instead, Pedri would prefer to be substituted in the 60th or 70th minute if a break is necessary, rather than being rested for an entire match. This approach has been implemented this season, with Pedri playing a key role in many games. However, if the match is under control or if Flick feels a substitution is needed, Pedri is happy to be taken off at that point.

Ibáñez concluded by noting that this strategy is yielding positive results for Pedri’s performance. When physically fit, Pedri’s quality shines through, as seen in his precise and influential passes in recent matches.

In addition to this, Pedri’s contract renewal is reportedly in progress, with the club working to secure his future, ensuring that he continues to be a central figure at Barça for years to come.

Pedri’s current contract with Barcelona is set to expire on June 30, 2026, but discussions about renewing his deal are already well underway. The club is making positive strides in securing his future, with plans for the renewal to be completed in the coming months, along with a salary increase.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has emphasized that renewing Pedri is a top priority for the club, and they aim to finalize the deal as quickly as possible. The goal is to extend his contract until at least 2031, with a massive €1 billion release clause included.

There are no expected issues regarding Pedri’s contract renewal, and everything is progressing smoothly. The midfielder, hailing from the Canary Islands, has always considered Barcelona his top priority, and this commitment is expected to remain unchanged. Fans can expect official updates on his renewal in the near future.
