Devastating news for Liverpool this morning as a Reds defender has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury.

Liverpool player Calum Scanlon has suffered another devastating injury setback just weeks after returning from a long-term injury. The 19-year-old left-back, who joined Millwall on loan five months ago, had only made one appearance in September before a stress fracture in his back forced him to return to Merseyside for treatment.

Scanlon had recently resumed action with Millwall in mid-January and was beginning to regain his form. However, misfortune struck again during Millwall’s 1-0 win over Luton last weekend, as he was forced off just 17 minutes into the match due to a hamstring injury. Millwall manager Alex Neil confirmed that Scanlon has suffered a grade three hamstring tear, which could rule him out for up to 12 weeks, potentially ending his season.

This injury marks another painful blow in Scanlon’s career, which has already been marred by injuries, including a previous four-month layoff. Unfortunately, Scanlon is not the only Liverpool youngster struggling with injury setbacks, with Kaide Gordon and Stefan Bajcetic also facing significant challenges in their development.

Jurgen Klopp had praised Scanlon during pre-season 18 months ago, calling him “fun to watch.” His loan move to Millwall was intended to give him valuable senior experience, but injuries have hindered his progress. With the expected recovery timeline, Scanlon may only return to action if Millwall makes a deep run in the Championship play-offs.

We wish him a full and speedy recovery and hope that once he overcomes this setback, he can enjoy a more injury-free period in his career.
