Press reports have revealed the cause of a crisis within the dressing room of Barcelona’s first football team during the current period.
Barcelona secured a spot among the top eight teams in this season’s Champions League after drawing 2-2 against Italian side Atalanta at the Montjuïc Stadium in the tournament’s Round of 16.
According to media reports, journalist Javi Miguel disclosed a difference in opinion between Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, and the club’s goalkeeping coach, José Ramón de la Fuente.
The disagreement reportedly stems from de la Fuente’s preference for Iñaki Peña to continue as Barcelona’s starting goalkeeper, while Flick opted for Wojciech Szczęsny instead. This was evident in Szczęsny’s appearances against Valencia in La Liga’s 21st round and against Atalanta in the Champions League.
The media further noted that Flick’s approach contradicts the usual rotation of goalkeepers in different competitions, potentially leading to tension in the Blaugrana dressing room.
A journalist close to the club revealed that Barcelona’s goalkeeping coach warned Flick that mistakes by Szczęsny could jeopardize the team’s season due to the Polish goalkeeper’s recklessness and unnecessary risks.
