According to Relevo, Al Ittihad’s pursuit of Frenkie De Jong is genuine, with the Saudi club’s sporting director, Ramón Planes, leading the charge.
Planes, who played a key role in bringing De Jong to Barcelona in 2019, is now eager to reunite with the Dutch midfielder at Al Ittihad. Notably, he was also instrumental in signing Pedri during the same transfer window.
This wouldn’t be Planes’ first successful deal involving Barcelona, as he previously facilitated Unai Hernández’s move to Al Ittihad before the January transfer window deadline.
De Jong Focused on Barcelona Future
Despite Al Ittihad’s strong interest, reports suggest that De Jong is open to discussing a contract extension with Barcelona. The midfielder has consistently expressed his desire to stay at Camp Nou, making any potential transfer a complex negotiation.
